Web Site Designs and Designing Websites

There is a lot to consider when designing a web site. One of the first considerations is design structure. Are you looking for graphic based or content based design? Graphic based, flash or template style web sites are usually limited in many ways due to the use of graphics. While internet protocols may someday be more accommodating to such design choices, the best performing web sites are content based, easy to read, follow and are informative. That is what I focus on with all my web site designs. Graphics use resources to load in browsers and limit the use of legible content on a page. This can come from contrast in colors or from allocated space for text content to be applied.

Web pages are much like a retail store in your local neighborhood, they have prime marketing areas that start with the web site's landing or index page and continue throughout the navigation structure of the entire web site. The immediate viewing area of each page is the most valuable or prime content areas. This area to me right now is approximately 800 by 800 pixels based on the average size devices used for exploring the internet. Using eye candy or graphics in moderations within this area to draw focus is a good practice, like the pink laptop with my picture.

Using The Right Amount of Graphics in a Web Site DesignMaintaining a simple and direct (one click) navigational structure is key to giving your visitors what they want when they want it. Identifying the websites navigation and menus to make the web sites design and environment user friendly and fulfilling is also very important. If it is content that is relevant to their search, they should be able to quickly find all the associated content.

The website's design should focus on purpose and what makes you money. You may have preferred services or products that are more profitable to your company that you would like to get as much business from as possible. These products or services should be the boldest focus in both design and web site optimizations.

Using the right solid colors to draw focus to a specific area or text content is good when done in a limited area. Complete web site designs that use poor color contrasts throughout the designs reading area, often tire or irritate the reader and they move on to a place they feel more comfortable and can achieve what their intentions are for browsing the internet.

Content that is too small or text fonts that are too hard to read are also poor design choices.

Providing you visitors and potential clients a pleasurable and informative experience, while maintaining purpose and focus is the best web site design you can achieve.
