There is only one thing more frustrating and disappointing than getting unreliable web site hosting services and that is learning you are paying too much for it in addition. There are lots of websites out there promoting and offering all kinds and variations of web site hosting, but do you really know what you are paying for or the actual useable part of the services being offered? All to often, I find most web site owner's have no clue what is part of the services or what all the bells and whistles really are. The most important values are how much space you are allocated on a shared server or virtual private server, the CPU speed and operating system, bandwidth usage, major use scripting support such as PHP, ASP, CGI, SQL, Pearl, SSL and SSI as well as Email and Backup Applications. When you start dealing with the add-ons and free stuff, these are generally free to anyone on the internet interested in using them. From Blogs and Content Management to Website Builders and Ecommerce. All anyone has to do is download and install them on their own. Wait, did I just say free, yes I did. The point, it is not something the hosting service provider is making exclusively available to you as part of a service they are providing. |  You will not get support in most cases from your web site hosting service provider for the free products and applications. For problem resolution you will be referred back to the script provider which generally means support via submitting a ticket or searching a forum. This can be very frustrating and time consuming while taking days to resolve. If for any reason one of my clients uses one of these scripts or applications, I will help and in most cases resolve the issue or concern for them, saving them the hassle, frustration and aggravation that comes along with these type of support situations. During normal web site maintenance processes, I will often find and resolve issues my clients never knew existed. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for and every minute they spend on support directly impacts their profit margin. I use Startlogic, they don't spend ungodly money on advertizing that comes from their customers like Godaddy. They have support available 24/7 by phone, support ticket and online chat. Their Domain and Hosting control panel is VDeck, which is very user friendly. All of these save you time, money and frustration. Does this make them great, of course not, but for under $10 a month for each of the many hosting accounts I have with them for over ten years, I am satisfied with the service I receive from them.
